Spoil Your Dog Day
dogsAugust 10 is Spoil Your Dog Day. My dogs want a bigger couch! Or perhaps, their own dog beds? (They have dog beds, and they are allowed on the couch, hence the washable covers.) These three love snuggling up with each other. Abby and Champ are twins (the girl with the eye dots and the brindle); Wooster is their big brother, by six months. We've never seen them snuggling with any of the other dogs.SaveSave Save
Well, that didn't work
Testing a fairly complicated cable pattern yesterday, one that worked fine when I knit it in one color yarn. I have wanted to knit colored cables for a long time. What I didn't realize was how much the "carried" yarn behind the cable would pull. The cables pulled into themselves, becoming much thinner than they had been in the one-color knitting. There was no tension on their yarn to keep them as wide as they needed to be to make the pattern work. I tried two rows of blending--carrying the main yarn into the cable with the color--but didn't like...
Travelling Cables in Color
In between major projects and need something to knit. Being able to print something frees me from the twin tyranny of "fit" and "climate." I went into my stash yesterday morning and found this: Lots of loose ends of tapestry yarn, acquired from estate sales, grab bags, donations from people who know I knit. I had a thought. Looked at the Aran sweater I used...
Color Shots
I've been playing around with colors now that it's spring and there are colors everywhere. I like the color chart program at PaletteFX for giving me a list of the component colors in an image. You can see a lot more of these on the Rugs from Rags website. They're also on the Pinterest account.
Shooting the Rugs for Knitting Fabric Rugs
BookSome of the rugs listed in the Hand Knit section were included in my book, Knitting Fabric Rugs. The writing was, for the most part, easy, except for the bits where I wave my needles and say, “make it work.” Book publishers don’t like those kinds of instructions. We worked it out. The most interesting part of the production process was the photo shoots. I had never worked with a professional product photographer before, let alone an art director and a stylist. VERY different from self-publishing. These are some of my pictures from the two different photo sessions, one on...
